Outing

Sven is a handsome, educated and likeable young man. He has a good job and looks like any guy on the street. But he is also a pedophile.

Unlike most interviews with pedophiles, Sven neither hides his face nor distorts his voice, and we also meet part of his family and work colleagues.

Directors Meise and Reider followed Sven over a long time, and in establishing mutual trust, the result is unusually candid interviews where Sven describes his self-contempt, his ongoing struggle with his emotions, the endless line of psychologists and therapists, and his fear of harming a child.

Sven has never acted on his attraction, but watching this film is undoubtedly an uncomfortable viewing experience. A portrait that neither condemns nor condones Sven, but offers insight into a taboo subject that is difficult to talk about, and without being open, progress cannot be made.

Sven’s hope is that his openness will help him control his desires, and also to contribute to educate and get a step closer to solving a problem that ruins the lives of far too many children.

Following the screening there will be a conversation with director Thomas Reider and psychologist and sexologist Thore Langfeldt.
